Finishing off August

A remnant of when life was measured by the school year calendar, I still consider August to be the end of summer.  It always feels like the latter weeks of August are a last hurrah.  So DDPP has felt extra ‘last day of vacation’-y these past 2 weeks.  It’s been so much fun spending the summer sweating it out at Brass Ovaries.  Especially appreciated is the abundance of adorable animals hanging around.  A couple weeks ago we proved how “no judgment” DDPP really is when Olive the pig joined us:

On 8/19 we had the pleasure of DJ Schweet Tea’s first (and hopefully not last) mix.  She’s a mother of twins, and still finds time to make it to DDPP most Tuesdays.  She rocked the house with a no-breaks playlist.  ‘Super Freak’ seemed to be the crowd favorite, not far ahead of the made-for-pole-swinging ‘Pour Some Sugar on Me’.  Full mix:

Video: India Arie
So What: P!nk
Bad Girl: Donna Summer
Pour Some Sugar on Me: Def Leppard
Shut Up and Let me Go: The Tings Tings
KISS: Prince
Blame it on the Boogie: Michael Jackson

Super Freak: Rick James
Funkytown (remix) : Lipps Inc
She’s A Rebel: Green Day

This past Tuesday, 8/26, we had a special farewell mix from DJ IAIA (aka Casey Bee) who is moving to LA.  She has also been a faithful DDPP-er for some time now.  Sometimes saying goodbye is tough, and the best expression of the sentiment is punk rock kicking across the dance floor.  Truly, it does a better job than words.  Here is the full playlist:

Head Over Heels – Tears for Fears
Forever – Haim
Into the Groove – Madonna
Midnight City – M83
Fell in Love with a Girl – The White Stripes
Gimme Shelter – The Rolling Stones
Let’s Go Crazy – Prince & The Revolution
Blister in the Sun – Violent Femmes
Disco 2000 – Pulp
Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt – We Are Scientists
Bank Holiday – Blur
La Camisa Negra – Juanes
Welcome to the Working Week – Elvis Costello
Just Like Heaven – The Cure
Kids in America – The Muffs
More Than This – Roxy Music

…See you in September!
