Fembots Like Dancing Too

Between Robyn, Ms. Jade, Lady Sovereign, Amerie, Bjork, and Janelle Monae, there was a lot of diva action on Sunday’s mix. Have you noticed that they’re from outer space?

Arch-android Janelle Monae:

Everybody’s favorite big time sensualist, Bjork:

And finally, fembot Robyn:

These divas are so amazing that our planet literally cannot sustain their awesomeness, and they have to go in search of brave new worlds to conquer with their groove. Let’s salute these space broads! DJ EZ-Bake loves ’em, and so do you, judging by your enthusiastic booty-shakin’ on Sunday night.

That’s just an awesome f’ing diva, y’all. Check her out! Also her name is extremely similar to one of the diva-est divas of all time!

For a crash course in divas and lots of great pictures, check out this awesome website. There’s a whole section devoted to Norma Shearer because these people really know their divas.

Anyway, here’s the mix:

DJ Fe-Nom = Fenomenal!!!

Okay, DDPP was AMAZING this past Sunday. For starters, we had a great group of ladies – both familiar faces and new ones – crowding the dance floor with their crazy awesome syncopated saltation. For another thing, we had a DJ with a gift for choosing truly tasty tracks – DJ Fe-Nom, the fe-male whose beats make us go “nom nom.” This lackadaisical lady with the mad moves brought it hard-core with a mix of clubby hits and songs we danced to at slumber parties when we were eight years old. From Ace of Base to Technotronic to Lady Gaga, DJ Fe-Nom led us by the hand down the booty-shakin’ path from childhood to adulthood. And you could see where she got her rad rhythm, because her mom was right there shaking it with her all the way! That’s right, Fe-Nom’s Mom is as phe-mom-enal as her daughter is phenomenal!

No playlist yet, but I eagerly anticipate it. DJ Fe-Nom, don’t leave us in the dark forever!

This Sunday: Father’s Day Salute to Mothers!

I’m going to level with you. Fathers totally rock, but we can’t have any at DDPP because of our harsh no-tolerance policy toward the male gender. We don’t judge them, we just want to dance without them once in a while.

Fortunately for the theme this week, however, we have a guest DJ with a very special relationship . . . to her mom! Okay, I know we already had a special Mother’s Day post and all. But is one day a year really enough to honor the generation who gave you llife? This Sunday, DJ Hope Floats (okay, that’s not her real DJ name, but I don’t know her real DJ name yet, so I made one up) is spinning some grooves sweet enough for her own mom to get down to – and that is a beautiful thing no matter what day it is. So come on down to NiaSpace this Sunday and honor thy father and mother by dishing up a plate of steaming ass-shakin’ at DDPP!!

Introducing DJ JamMaster Fresh!!

Last night a DJ was born under the disco lights at Dance Dance Party Party. A DJ who spun us right round, baby, right round; who had us walking on sunshine; and who understood that, like all girls, we just wanted to have fun.

Here’s a brief summary:

In short, we were holding out for a hero, and we got one. DJ JamMaster Fresh, we’re never gonna give you up!
