Just a reminder that after a week off, DDPP will be back in action this Sunday the 24th, same place (NiaSpace) same time (7:00-8:30) as always! This week will be super awesome because the lovely DJ Joymaker will be throwing down some jams! I don’t know about you but I can’t wait to hear what she plays for us!
See you Sunday!
I just had to update because I missed DDPP oh, so much on Sunday night. As I mentioned before, I was out of town so we had to take a week off from dancing. Well, the dance spirit doesn’t leave my body so easily and I found the desire to bust a move overwhelming. This, my dear dancers, was my first mistake.
My faithful friend Summer accompanied me to a dance party. It was your typical, non-DDPP scene: the room was full of boys, the booze was flowin’ and judgement hung thick in the air. Summer and I sipped on our drinks as we sat and watched everybody else dancing. I was enjoying being a spectator for awhile and then Beyonce came on. I cannot not dance to Beyonce (my second mistake). I was just imagining that I was wearing a body suit, waving my hand around like it was covered by that weird metal glove thing, pointing to my finger as if it should have had a ring on it. And then… disaster struck. One minute I was innocently belting out “Single Ladies” as I strutted around ridiculously and the next thing I knew a classy gentlemen was grinding all over me. Yes, that’s right, I was a victim of the dreaded ass-crotch. You know the type, a guy who thinks that any woman’s ass is an acceptable place for him to rub his crotch. It ended as soon as it began and the next thing I knew, I was swept up in the middle of the crowd doing the “Cupid Shuffle.” I don’t know if it’s just the vodka cranberries speaking, but it was all a blur… a very unfortunate blur.
This is a perfect reminder of why I love DDPP so much. There is no (unsolicited) ass-crotching going on here. No men who think it is every woman’s dream to have their junk rubbed all over our bodies. No vodka to make us think that doing the “Cupid Shuffle” may be an okay idea. No woman judging me for being THAT GIRL who allows strange men to violate my personal space, giving me no chance to express my distaste for the situation.
I’m officially counting down the days until Sunday, where we can all gather and move joyfully again, free of worries for that glorious hour and a half.
Another ridiculous DJ Marby Marb mix got all the ladies movin’ last night! I’m looking forward to some guest DJs in the near future even though we all know that everybody secretly loves the Spice Girls and bad 90’s R&B.
Also, if you haven’t joined the DDPP Austin facebook group yet, doooo itttt!
Also also, we will NOT be dancing next week, the 17th, because I’ll be outta town. No worries, beautiful ladies, DDPP will be back in action on the 24th!
If you missed DDPP on the 3rd you missed lots and lots of glitter!! And no, I’m not talking about the questionable Mariah Carey soundtrack-to-the-movie-of-the-same-name. There was sparkling and frolicking and giggling and even a few nut thrusts.
I can pretty much guarantee that all of this and more will be going down once again on the 10th!! In case you were wondering, yes, it is incredible.
Happy New Year, ladies! I hope 2009 treated you well and 2010 will be even better! Now that all the festivities are done, it’s time to get down to business with our New Year’s Resolutions. If you’re like me and millions of other people in the world, you tell yourself every year around this time “THIS is the year I’m going to be healthier and get more exercise!” If you’re like me (and probably millions of other people in the world), you kinda sorta don’t really follow through with those plans as well as you perhaps should. Fear not, lovely ladies, DDPP is here to help! An hour and a half of dancing is an amazing workout that is actually really fun. There is something invigorating about cutting loose in a roomful of ladies who are just letting go and having a great time.
Since it’s the first DDPP of the year, I’m extending the two for the price of one deal! So grab a friend or two and head on down to NiaSpace (3212 S. Congress) Sunday the 3rd at 7pm and dance your asses off!
Also, I’m still taking song requests so hit me up at marybethbrubaker at gmail dot com if there’s something you’re dying to hear. And, don’t forget, after you attend DDPP at least once you can sign up to be a guest DJ and make your own playlist!
